What is the “Orientation day program for fresher’s” in DU? And some other FAQs!

Dear friends,
First of all we would like to wish a very many heartiest congratulations to the all the successful students who secured their admissions into Delhi University.
It is itself a proud feeling to be a student of Delhi University as DU is one of most premier institutional body in India and also amongst the list of top educational institutions across the world.

We welcome the entire fresher’s at Delhi University!
Dear fresher’s we know that almost all of you must be excited about your first day in college.
Many of must heard about the “Orientation day program for fresher’s” in DU.
We have tried to give a light on “Orientation day program for freshers”, and some of your doubts regarding the beginning in DU, and some other FAQs.

Q.:- What is the “Orientation day program for fresher’s” in DU?
A.:- “Orientation day program for fresher’s” is an effort made by the Delhi University to Welcome, Educate, make aware and introduce about the Administration, faculty members, Student Unions, Departments in college infrastructure, college culture, and various activities in college, Cultural activities, Sports, Educational Trip, Annual fest, Students Elections and other aspects related to the college and DU.
We Suggest all the new students a must attend to the very first day of their college i.e. The Orientation day; it will definitely help you to understand about your college and its culture.

Q.:- I am scared about ragging!! What do I do?
A.:- Ragging is strictly prohibited at DU, and Delhi University has also initiated a program called “link” to avoid ragging and other miss-happenings.

Q.:- What do I do when someone tries to harass me? Or attempts ragging?
A.:- In case of any kind of physical or mental harassment or ragging you can follows these steps. (Source- DU Official site)
  • You can file a written complaint in the admin of your college.
  • You can call National Anti-Ragging helpline: 1800 180 5522
  • You can approach to any police officer near to the spot or call 100 for PCR.
  • You can call joint control room : South – 011 24119832, North – 011 27667221
  • You can call DU’s Information Centre : 155215 , 27006900
  • Or you can mail your complaints at : proctor@du.ac.in or infocentre@du.ac.in

In addition to the above we would like to say one thing that If a senior student or a group of students or any other known/unknown students asks for your introductions, please do not consider it as a ragging. Asking for introduction doesn’t mean that the students are harassing you, however it depends on you to give answers to the questions or not, whether it’s a personal question or general question. But yes if a student ask some offensive/abusive/vulgar questions that can be termed as harassment in this case you can follows one of the above steps.

Q.:- What kind of stuffs do I carry on my First day?
A.:- Usually teachers don’t teach on the very first day of college, off-course they also got very busy in welcoming all of you, and also in some other students/fresher’s welfare works.
So keeping books for study on the first day in not suggested however its upto you if you wish to take books or any other novels you can. Though it also depends upon the college to teach the academics or not on the first day!

But remember to keep these stuffs.
  • A Notebook/Dairy: to record various information’s about the Time Table, Study Book Names and Authors, Helpline numbers, respected concerned faculty names of your class/course/departments.!
